Environmental Charter

Presentation Family Centre is a place of welcome and peace, where families and individuals can connect with self, others and the environment.

Located on the land of the Bunurong People of the Kulin Nation, we acknowledge the traditional custodians and their connection to this land. We recognise Indigenous stewardship and management of the land for many thousands of years and we are inspired by their history of caring for country.*

We accept the scientific evidence that the climate is changing due to human activity. We note the increased destruction of the earth’s precious natural habitat through unsustainable development and the resultant loss of biodiversity. We see the land, sea and air being damaged by increased levels of pollution caused by industrialisation and consumerism. We see that the whole earth community is at risk from these changes.

With this charter, we declare our commitment to act.

Our Place
The Mornington Peninsula is part of the Mornington Peninsula and Western Port Biosphere Reserve which contains a mix of landscapes: national and marine parks, rural agriculture, and urban-growth areas. Dotted with beautiful swimming beaches, sea-side townships and vineyards in picturesque settings, the Biosphere is a tourist destination for millions of Australians and overseas visitors every year. A major drawcard of the Biosphere Reserve is the wonderful diversity of flora and fauna including breeding colonies of the little penguin, koala, Australian fur seal, hooded plover and short- tailed shearwater.**

Our location offers guests a unique opportunity to engage with and appreciate the natural world. It is close to many walking and bicycle trails and national parks, as well as the sea and foreshore reserve. The ‘Wilderness area’ at the rear of our property provides habitat for many species of native flora and fauna. The vegie gardens on site reinforce this link to nature. Presentation Family Centre is therefore well-placed to provide opportunities for our guests to connect with nature and discover the peace and tranquillity of spirit that this may provide. Our beautiful natural environment forms an important part of the enriching experience of a stay at PFC.

Our Commitment
We, the board of the Presentation Family Centre commit to the following actions:

1. Enhance the natural environment that supports native insects, bees, and wildlife
2. Reduce, reuse, and recycle resources used by Presentation Family Centre
3. Connect guests to nature
4. Publish our progress in our annual report

“…. we should all commit ourselves to promoting and implementing the [United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals] that are supported by our deepest religious and ethical
values.” Pope Francis, Agenda 2030, 2015
